To blog or not to blog. That is the question. In the world of internet marketing, there comes a time when a beginner with online marketing realizes they need to take that next step into the blog-osphere. A place where their words will live for a very long time, and links back to their blog or website will remain for quite a while. Blogs come in many different styles, formats, and settings, depending on what the user prefers. You can even put videos and mp3’s into your blog.
So what is a blog? A weblog, or blog for short, is an online journal where a person can put their thoughts, opinions, ideas and anything else that people might want to read on the internet. It can contain different built in features such as pictures, straight texts, and hyperlink, etc., as well as the above mentioned video and mp3. Some bloggers chose to make their blogs audio and visual friendly by using spoken work entries instead of text. There are no rules when it comes to blogging. Bloggers have the freedom to express themselves any way they want, since blogging for the most part is free and anyone can do it.
Anyone who wants to start a blog can do so by becoming a member of a blogging website of their choice, usually Wordpress or Blogger. One of the advantages of blogging, is that it is made of only a few templates, it’s interchangeable, usually has fixed settings for the title, body, category and other gadgets. This is especially useful for first time users, since they can start blogging right away. They can chose from a number of templates that blogging websites provide to create their own look and feel, and theme to the blog. There is usually a space for comments for each blog post, so readers can make comments regarding the subject. A blogger can browse through other blogs they are interested in and even link them back to their page to help with search engine rankings.
A blog is not just for personal use, it can be patterned around a theme and subject, such as social commentary, politics, education, sports, fashion, etc. It becomes a way in which people can share opinions, knowledge, and commentary regarding these particular subjects, whether you may agree or not. Many University and College Professors use blogs to instruct students who missed class, assign class work and use it as a way to discuss and document the current lessons for the week. Blogging can be used in just about every profession, if it’s done correctly.
Many entrepreneurs use their blogs for advertising their product or service, potentially reaching millions and millions of people every day that log onto the internet. Many use it to promote a free eBook to entice a prospect, and eventually market their primary business to them. When a prospects signs up to receive the eBook, their email address is loaded into an auto responder filled with emails that are sent every few days to gain trust, and eventually enroll them into their business. This type of blog marketing is know as attraction marketing.
Blogging is simple, easy and fun. It can be very profitable too, if done the right way. There are no exact rules for blogging, but by keeping your blog looking clean, crisp, interesting and full of interesting and content rich articles, video and information, you can attract a large following from around the world. Look for other blogs online to get some great ideas, as well as books from your local library and book stores. Soon, your thoughts and words will be flying through cyberspace for the world to see, and possibly living on for years to come.
