In November 07, the highly respected Internet consulting company SEOmoz published the results of a survey that represents the collective wisdom of 37 leaders in the world of SEO. Together, they voted on the various factors that Google uses to orders results.
Here are the top 5 SEO factors they came up with:
1. Keyword Use in Title Tag
2. Anchor Text of Inbound Link
3. Global Link Popularity of Site
4. Age of Site
5. Link Popularity within the Sites Internal Link Structure
1) Keyword Use in Title Tag
No surprise here. Your title tags are vital to successful SEO. Each page within your website should have its own unique Title. The keywords in the title should be repeated throughout the content on that page.
2) Anchor Text of Inbound Link
Anchor text is the visible text that appears for a link. When you receive a link back to your website from external sites, the stronger the anchor text is as a relevant keyword, the more valuable the link.
3) Global Link Popularity of Site
The more quality links from external sites back to your site, the more important Google determines your site to be. These ‘backlinks’ are like a vote of confidence for your site. A higher quality site is one that get a lot of traffic, and is related to yours. Perhaps in the same industry, a supplier, a retailer, or a trade directory. A link to my Hockey Tips site from my buddies Jazz site that nobody ever visits is not going to do me any good
4) Age of Site
Google values a site that been around for a number of years like an old wise man. This one you can’t do much about if your site is fairly new. You’ll just have to keep adding great content to your site, grow your backlinks, and be patient. If you can buy an established domain for a reasonable price, it may be worth considering.
5) Link Popularity within the Sites Internal Link Structure
This refers to the number and importance ofjavascript:void(0)
Publish Post internal links. Make sure your most important pages are linked to directly from your homepage, not buried 3 or 4 links down.
There are many other factors as well, but these are ones you should be spending the most time on. Search engines frequently change the formula and sometimes introduce new factors, so be sure use a variety of methods. Just doing your title tags will not be enough.
